Thoughtful, Classical Pilates teaching

Hi, I’m Tal, owner of Cottage Lake Pilates.

Pilates has been part of my life for more than 25 years and has profoundly shaped the way I move, feel, and live. After a career in psychology and corporate facilitation, I followed my passion for movement and completed the Metropolitan Authentic Training (MAT) Pilates Program, studying with world-renowned master teacher Dorothee VanDewalle. I continue to teach at Metropolitan Pilates in Seattle while working with clients in my own studio.

My training is rooted in the classical Pilates method, following the lineage of Joseph Pilates through Romana Kryzanowska. I believe Pilates is for everybody and every body, and I enjoy helping clients build strength, improve mobility, and move with greater ease and confidence.

At Cottage Lake Pilates, I offer personalized instruction on authentic Gratz equipment in a welcoming, Scandinavian-inspired studio. Sessions are tailored to the individual, whether you’re new to Pilates, an experienced mover, an athlete, or someone working with physical limitations or returning to movement after an injury.

I look forward to welcoming you to the studio.

Strength, mobility, and control working together

Pilates is a full-body exercise system focused on building strength, control, mobility, and coordination, with particular emphasis on the “powerhouse”—the muscles of the core, hips, and glutes that support everyday movement.

01

Simultaneous Strength and Stretching

Pilates exercises are designed to strengthen and lengthen muscles within the same movement, integrating strength and flexibility rather than treating them as separate goals.

02

Improved Posture and Alignment

By strengthening the muscles that support the spine and improving body awareness, Pilates can support more efficient alignment and movement, helping reduce unnecessary strain through the neck, shoulders, and lower back.

03

Management of Lower Back Pain

Research suggests that Pilates can improve pain and functional ability in adults with chronic low back pain.1, 3

04

Focus, Breath, and Well-Being

The emphasis on concentration, controlled movement, and breath may also support psychological well-being and help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and fatigue.2

Tal is an incredibly professional, attentive, and precise teacher. I’ve been taking classes with her for several months now, and I can genuinely feel how much stronger I’ve become and how much I’ve improved in so many ways. What makes her teaching so special is how closely she pays attention to your body and your individual needs. She notices every little detail and adjusts the exercises accordingly, so the class feels truly personalized to you. Her level of professionalism and knowledge is exceptional, and I highly recommend taking a few trial classes to experience her unique approach for yourself.

Common questions

Where do I start?

Start with the Intro Private. Most clients begin with a series of private sessions before adding other session formats.

What are Semi-Private Mat & Small Apparatus sessions?

They are 50-minute sessions for 3–5 people focusing on Classical mat repertoire and small apparatus. They are designed to complement private sessions by giving you another opportunity to practice, reinforce, and build on the work you are learning one-on-one.

Do I need Pilates experience?

No. Sessions can be adapted for complete beginners as well as experienced Pilates clients.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting workout clothing without zippers or buttons, as those can damage the upholstery on the equipment. Grip socks are encouraged.

Can Pilates be adapted if I have an injury or physical condition?

Often, yes. Please share relevant limitations before your session. If you are currently under medical care, follow your clinician’s guidance and obtain clearance when appropriate. Pilates does not replace medical diagnosis or rehabilitation.

Where is the studio?
